In response to escalating tensions along the India-Pakistan border, authorities across several northern states have ordered widespread closures of educational institutions. The phrase Schools Colleges closed has become the prevailing update as districts implement precautionary measures to ensure civilian safety.
In Rajasthan, both government and private schools have been shut in five key border districts—Jodhpur, Bikaner, Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Shri Ganganagar. Alongside schools, colleges in Jodhpur have also been asked to remain closed until further notice. The decision follows a high alert issued across western Rajasthan, with a scheduled nighttime blackout from midnight to 4 a.m. aimed at reducing visibility in the event of aerial threats.
Similarly, in Jammu and Kashmir, the administration has announced that all schools and colleges will stay closed until Saturday. This directive affects not only Jammu but also border-sensitive regions like Poonch and Uri, which recently witnessed shelling following Operation Sindoor—an Indian military operation conducted on Wednesday. In Ladakh, the Leh administration mirrored the move, announcing that Schools Colleges closed orders will be in effect throughout the weekend.
The Punjab government has taken parallel steps by announcing the closure of all educational institutions for a three-day period. The decision impacts key regions, including the Tricity area—Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula—where local officials confirmed that Schools Colleges closed directives will apply on both Friday and Saturday. Panjab University has also postponed its scheduled examinations, stating new dates will be declared soon.
In Haryana, educational institutions in Panchkula have followed suit, remaining shut for two days in response to increased border activity. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has postponed remaining CA exams, including the Final, Intermediate, and PQC papers, which were scheduled from May 9 to 14.
Following Operation Sindoor, several Indian border districts experienced heightened military activity, including missile and drone threats from across the border. Indian defenses intercepted most of these attacks, which targeted both military and civilian infrastructure. The Schools Colleges closed status across regions is part of a coordinated safety effort.
This wave of closures underscores the severity of the current geopolitical situation. As officials continue to monitor developments, further updates on reopening schedules are expected early next week. Until then, the nationwide refrain remains clear: Schools Colleges closed until the situation stabilizes.
